The layout
is based on a railroad that I grew up next to in Placerville,
California. The Camino, Placerville and Lake Tahoe Railroad was a
short line that connected the Michigan-California Lumber Company's mill in Camino
with the Southern Pacific's Placerville Branch in Placerville, about 8
railroad miles away. |
I intend
to model the line from Placerville up to the mill, and operate it with a single
GE 44-tonner, just like the prototype did, but I'll use my imagination to
stretch the railroad all the way past Lake Tahoe (why have it in your name if
you're not going to go there?), through the Nevada desert to interchange with
the U.P. near Portola, CA. I'll be modeling from the Placerville yard to
Camino, with staging yards east of Camino (representing Reno and points east) and west of
Placerville (representing Roseville and points west). There
will also be a connection with my
son's railroad, the Sacramento, Big Trees and
Western, and we'll model some of it's operations in Sacramento.
